To discourage rote learning, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) have decided to conduct class 9 exams using the Student Learning Outcome (SLO) System.
The decision was made following the conclusion of the two-day plenary of the KP Boards’ Chairmen Committee (KPBCC), which included the heads of all KP BISEs. Prof Zamin Gul, Chairman of the KPBCC, presided over the meeting.
The KPBCC meeting also agreed to train 50 Subject Specialist Teachers (SSTs) in question paper preparation under the SLO System. A comprehensive workshop will be held to train SSTs.
Prof. Zamin Gul, Chairman of the KPBCC, stated in this regard that the SOL System will provide students with real-world knowledge. KP’s BISEs have also posted model question papers under the SLO System on their respective websites.
Aside from that, the Chairman revealed that annual exams will be held in April or May of next year, and that all BISEs in the province have begun preparations for the exams to be held under the new system.
Separately, the KP government decided against granting winter vacations to educational institutes in the province due to insufficient time to cover the entire curriculum.
According to an official notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED), the working days available in KP schools to complete course work for the academic session 2022-23 are insufficient in the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Furthermore, winter vacations in public and private schools in the winter zone have been reduced, and schools will be closed from January 1 to February 15. Schools in the winter zone will reopen on February 16th.
