Toddler in power theft Case: How did it happen?

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, something surprising happened. A little 3-year-old named Zaeem Abbas got blamed for stealing electricity. PESCO and WAPDA were upset, so they took Zaeem to court.

But then, the judge found out Zaeem was just a little kid and dropped the case.

Last month, some companies that give out electricity found out people were stealing it.

This made the country lose a lot of money, about Rs 438 billion! The companies should have gotten Rs 723 billion, but they only got some because of the stealing.

Some places where these companies work, like Hyderabad, Sukkur, Peshawar, Quetta, and Tribal areas, didn’t do a good job stopping the stealing.

On April 7th, the Punjab Energy Department said some companies were charging too much money from government places.

They named LESCO, FESCO, MEPCO, GEPCO, and IESCO as the companies doing this.

In the province, there are more than 102,000 government places that use electricity. In one year, they used electricity worth Rs 1.91 billion, but they had to pay Rs 76 billion.

The big government approved sending FIA officers to DISCOs to stop power stealing and make things better, as the IMF asked.
