Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Amin Ul Haque stated that a US $7.1 billion investment had been made in the country’s telecommunication sector, with a billion rupees earned.
Science & Tech Park at Karachi University
On Tuesday, he was addressed as the Chief Guest at an MoU signing ceremony for the establishment of the Health Incubator and Science & Technology Park at Karachi University’s (KU) International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS).
Syed Junaid Imam, Member Ministry of IT & Telecom, and Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary, Director ICCBS, signed the MoU.
On the request of KU Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, the IT Minister stated that the Karachi University Examination Centre would be digitalized.
In this regard, he directed Member IT and CEO National Information Technology Board to coordinate with KU management.
According to the MoU, the Pakistan Software Export Board will establish a Health Incubator and Science and Technology Park in the University’s ICCBS.
Our goal is to integrate information and communication technology and academia; for example, the establishment of a health incubator at the university will greatly assist medical start-ups, while the establishment of a science and technology park will connect students to the digital world.
He claimed that the revolutionary steps we took during our ministry should have been taken decades earlier. In terms of ability and competence, Pakistani youths hold a unique position in the world.
The need was to persuade these young people to pursue careers in technology. Opportunities should be made available, and important has done their best to play their part in this regard.
He stated that the MOITT spent Rs77.8 billion through the Universal Service Fund on 83 projects to provide Broadband Services in remote areas across Pakistan to help the rural population perform their jobs and connect to the digital world.
He also stated that the assembly passed the smartphone manufacturing bill, and that 28 companies, including Samsung and Nokia, are currently producing mobile phones.
According to Amin Ul Haque, the world’s renowned search engine Google opened an office in the country last year and provided 15000 scholarships to our students, and this year they are providing 45000 scholarships. This figure will rise to 4 lacs 50 thousand by 2024.
Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University (KU), Prof. Dr. Atta-Ur-Rehman, ICCBS Director Prof. Dr. M Iqbal Choudhry, CEO of Pakistan Software Export Board Ali Raza, CEO Ignite Asim Shahryar Hussain and Aziz Latif Jamal, and Nadira Panjwani also spoke at the ceremony.
