Karachi traffic authorities have launched an extensive operation against vehicles using fancy, fake, or non‑approved number plates across the city. The initiative targets both cars and motorcycles that do not display government‑approved plates, as part of an effort to enforce traffic rules more strictly.
Joint Enforcement by Multiple Agencies
The campaign involves a collaborative effort between the Traffic Police, district police, the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), the Excise Department, and the Driving Licence Wing. Checkpoints have been established at key locations to inspect vehicles for violations of plate regulations.
Special Checks Across the City
Enforcement teams are conducting checks in areas like Teen Talwar, New Town, Orangi Town, and other major intersections. Vehicles without number plates or with unauthorised designs are being stopped and inspected for compliance.
Penalties and Guidance for Owners
Authorities have urged vehicle owners to ensure they use officially sanctioned number plates to avoid legal action. Unsanctioned plates can result in fines or the impoundment of vehicles, and motorists are reminded to carry proper documentation at all times.
Traffic Police Under DIG Traffic Oversight
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has been reported to personally monitor parts of the execution, ensuring that traffic enforcement and vehicle checks are carried out efficiently and according to regulations.
Incidents During the Drive
During the enforcement activity, there have been reported incidents such as a minor driver attempting to flee after being stopped at a checkpoint and allegedly breaking a traffic signal while trying to escape. The police are expected to trace the vehicle and take further action.
Public Reminder and Compliance Encouraged
Traffic officials have reminded citizens that using only government‑approved plates and correct documentation will help avoid challans and legal troubles. Motorists are advised to adjust their plates and comply with regulations promptly to ensure smoother travel on city roads.
