With the help of a license deal, the Chinese automaker Geely will provide ElectroMobility Poland (EMP) with its Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform in order for them to create a line of electric vehicles under EMP’s new Izera brand. Geely will collaborate with EMP on this initiative as a technical partner.
The Polish government is supporting EMP, and Izera will effectively be Poland’s first local brand in generations. The Izera can serve as a catalyst for the growth of Polish auto part and component makers, according to the EMP website, which claims that Poland is the largest European sales market for new automobiles without its own domestic auto brand.
Interestingly, Poland’s auto components business is already the second biggest industrial sector despite the absence of a national automaker.
The first car Izera will build on Geely’s SEA platform is a compact crossover SUV, unquestionably one of the most well-liked body styles in the present. Later on, a C-segment waggon and a hatchback will be introduced in addition to this.
EMP, a company that employs 2,400 people, will be the first direct external user of the SEA platform and construct Izera automobiles in its own facility in Jaworzno, Poland. In Poland, having an indigenous auto brand is considered to be a must. From the official website, an excerpt is as follows:
“The creation of Polish brand of electric cars can benefit everyone: drivers, large companies, entrepreneurs and the Polish state, among others. As regards the justification of the investment in the project, the question should not be whether we can afford to invest in such an enterprise, but whether we can afford to abandon the efforts to create it.”
