The Universal Service Board poised to submit a panel of three candidates for the ultimate selection of the new CEO following a series of extensive interviews.
The selected individual will serve on a three-year contract basis.
On August 15 of this year, Haris Mehmood Chaudhry, the former CEO of USF, concluded his four-year term.
Chaudhry declined to extend his term even though the IT Ministry offered him a one-year extension.
Appointment of USF CEO
It is noteworthy that the appointment of the CEO of USF was made without the Election Commission of Pakistan’s consent, according to the Ministry of IT and Telecom.
Sources claim that during the last days of the former administration, the appointment process was started.
In Pakistan, the USF is essential to the advancement of telecommunications in remote and underserved areas.
Over the previous four years, the USF accomplished major accomplishments under the direction of Haris Mehmood Chaudhry, connecting an astounding 40 million individuals in rural areas.
The USF successfully completed 83 projects over this time, with a value of Rs. 77.7 billion.
This is a significant increase over the 76 projects, worth Rs. 57 billion, that started during the 13-year period prior.
