Israel tourists to be banned from Maldives immediately

The Maldives will ban Israelis from their luxury tourist hot spot, the president’s office said on Sunday. A national rally in “solidarity with Palestine” was announced.

The Maldives is a small Islamic country with over 1,000 tiny islands made of coral. People come here for its white sandy beaches, blue lagoons, and places that feel like Robinson Crusoe’s adventures.

President Mohamed Muizzu has decided that Israeli people can’t use their passports to visit here, a person who speaks for him said. They didn’t say when this would happen.

Muizzu also started a big campaign called “Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine.”

Back in the early 1990s, people from Israel could come to the Maldives for a visit. But in 2010, they stopped letting them.

They tried to become friends again after President Mohamed Nasheed was removed in 2012, but it didn’t work out.

Some groups who don’t like Muizzu and his friends made him say no to people from Israel. They were upset because of what happened in Gaza.

The official information showed that in the first four months of this year, 528 people from Israel visited the Maldives. That’s a lot less than last year, down by 88%.

When the Maldives said no to people from Israel, someone from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it’s better for citizens not to go to the Maldives.
