Islamabad Installs M-Tag Readers at 11 Key Entry Points

Islamabad has recently enhanced security by installing m-tag readers at 11 strategic locations across the city. These devices are complemented by 14 surveillance cameras, forming a robust monitoring network. The initiative aims to strengthen vehicle identification, manage city entry efficiently, and support law enforcement in real time through a centralized Safe City system.

Supervision and Technology Integration

The Safe City Authority supervised the installation of the m-tag readers and cameras. Frontier Works Organization provided the m-tags, supported by the capital administration. All devices are mounted on newly installed poles and linked directly to the Safe City system. This setup allows authorities to monitor traffic and vehicles in real time for better control and security management.

Locations Covered by M-Tag Readers

The readers and cameras are positioned at key routes and sensitive areas, including:

Type Location
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Faizabad
M-Tag Readers & Cameras D-Chowk
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Zero Point
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Ninth Avenue
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Bari Imam
M-Tag Readers & Cameras NADRA Headquarters
M-Tag Readers & Cameras G-14 N5 Entry
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Marriott Hotel
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Adventure Inn Garden Avenue
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Gandum Godown on IJP Road
M-Tag Readers & Cameras Margalla Iran Avenue
Cameras Only Foreign Office
Cameras Only Bhara Kahu Bridge

Functionality and Vehicle Monitoring

The system automatically scans m-tags and registration plates, generating alerts for mismatches. It identifies vehicles without valid m-tags to prevent unauthorized entry. All cameras are online except for the E-9 entry at PAF, which is still being connected. Officials confirm the system will provide real-time tracking and support security personnel in maintaining smooth traffic flow.

Government’s Security Push

This move follows Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s statement that no vehicle will be allowed into Islamabad without an e-tag. The announcement came after a suicide attack near the Judicial Complex on November 11. Authorities are now emphasizing stricter security measures, combining technology and enforcement to protect residents and ensure orderly movement within the federal capital.

Future Outlook

With all devices operational, Islamabad’s traffic and security monitoring will become more efficient. The centralized system ensures quick alerts for suspicious vehicles and smoother traffic management. Authorities plan to expand these measures as needed to enhance overall city safety. Citizens are expected to comply with e-tag requirements for seamless access and improved security throughout Islamabad.
