The longing to be free of the confines of human existence dates back to our earliest stories. Our awareness is stuck in mortal machines made of meat, despite the fact that we exist in an infinite cosmos constrained only by the laws of physics. For the first time, the thought of leaving our body mounds behind and uploading our minds into a digital heaven seemed realistic, thanks to the spectacular explosion of innovation and progress. It’s almost as though we’ve reached the next logical rung on our evolutionary ladder.
