The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications has completed the first draft of the National Space Policy.
Initial Draft of National Space Policy
According to Ministry of IT and Telecom sources, the Ministry of IT and Telecom has created a draft of the National Security Policy and has distributed it to several ministries for feedback.
According to sources, the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications has informed SIFC that coordination with other ministries on the National Space Policy is ongoing.
However, the proposed National Space Policy is currently being consulted on, and the ministry will seek input from industry, academia, and other stakeholders.
Pakistan’s space policy will be determined by the National Space Policy (NSP).
Policy’s Concern Points
Moreover,the policy will seek to strengthen the space sector’s role, encourage mission activities, and strengthen collaborations between research, education, start-ups, and business.
According to sources, a National Space Council has been proposed as part of the National Space Policy.
To fully cover the space sector, three to four different types of licenses will be given.
Satellite Framework
Additionally, the satellite framework is ready at the Ministry of IT and Telecom; following the approval of this policy, the satellite framework will be approved, and satellite licenses will be issued.
Following Starlink’s license application, the topic of space policy came to the forefront.
Currently, the PTA, PEMRA, and Civil Aviation issue their own licenses, but there is no adequate procedure for the license for satellites, onboard connection, Thuraya sets, and others, thus the first space policy was conceived.
The government, according to the sources, aims to monetize space technologies and grow its share of the global space economy by building national space infrastructure and enlisting the private sector.

Moreover, the global space economy is predicted to exceed $600 billion in the next two years and to surpass $1 trillion by 2040.
The government of neighboring India just approved a space policy for the year 2023.
