On Sunday, many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, condemned two leaders from India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making insulting remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The Islamophobic remarks made by two spokespersons for India’s ruling party were strongly criticized by Pakistan’s authorities.
Qatar, Kuwait, and Iran, on the other hand, summoned Indian envoys to express their displeasure and requested an apology from New Delhi.
In separate declarations, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as the official Foreign Office statement, encouraged the international community to take notice and “severely condemn India” for its ruling-party officials’ insulting remarks.
Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, the BJP’s spokespersons, were expelled from the party on Sunday for making Islamophobic remarks. Pakistan and other Islamic countries, on the other hand, believed it was insufficient.
“Merely suspending and expelling party officials is not enough… the BJP must shun and denounce its extremist and fascist Hindutva ideology,” President Alvi said. The Foreign Office also urged India to “ensure decisive and demonstrable action” against those responsible.
Dr. Arif Alvi claimed that the BJP’s toxic Hindutva ideology was infringing on the minorities’ religious liberty and harassing them without repercussions. “This is the reflection of a growing trend of Islamophobia in India where Muslims lived in millions,” he added.
“Allowing such Islamophobic remarks to continue without punishment constitutes a grave danger to the protection of human rights and may lead to further prejudice and marginalization, which will create a cycle of violence and hate,” he warned.
Prime Minister Shehbaz tweeted that the world should take notice of the BJP leaders’ insulting remarks and severely reprimand India. He tweeted “I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India’s BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH).”
The Indian envoy was summoned by Qatar’s foreign ministry, which sent him an official message expressing Qatar’s regret and “its total rejection and condemnation [of] the controversial remarks made by an official in the ruling party in India.”
