India is the largest source of anti-Muslim tweets in the world

According to a recent research by the Islamic Council of Victoria, the United States, the United Kingdom, and India are the countries that post the most hateful tweets about Muslims worldwide.

871,379 anti-Islamic tweets originated in India between August 28 and August 27, 2021, according to the report. The US generated 289,248 tweets, while the UK generated 196,376 tweets.

The research, “Islamophobia in the Digital Age,” emphasises that the country’s anti-Muslim agenda is being promoted by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), which is now in power.

Islamophobia has been a problem in the US for a while. It got worse under former President Donald Trump, who spoke out against Muslims in a bigoted, conspiratorial, and provocative manner.

The anti-Muslim feeling in the UK was caused by a number of causes, including the country’s anti-migrant mentality, the previous prime minister Boris Johnson’s casual bigotry, and the international resonance of Donald Trump’s Islamophobic statements.

According to the survey, 3,759,180 anti-Islamic posts were sent on Twitter over the time frame in question. Only 14.8% of such tweets were deleted after a year, whereas 85.2% of all tweets remained online.

Linking Islam to terrorism, depicting Muslim males as sexual predators, and instilling fear that Muslims want to impose Sharia law are the three main topics of anti-Muslim tweets.

The secondary topics include propagating the notion that Muslims seek to proliferate, harassing Muslim public figures, and demonising halal meat.
