A young Pakistani entrepreneur in the United Kingdom has become the first to open a “Chai Ada” café that accepts different cryptocurrencies as payment.
Tayyab Shafiq, 26, has opened the Chai Ada coffee shop in Shepherds Bush, West London, selling a variety of Pakistani and Asian chai, parathas, biryani, kebabs, and rolls.
The Chai Ada, which is painted with Lahori truck art and located immediately next to the White City Bus terminal, has been an instant hit as the public’s attention is drawn to the colorful chairs outside, which are decked with Pakistani truck art.
Shafiq is the same individual who made news in the United Kingdom when he built a Biryani café in the iconic red phone box in London.
Due to regulatory concerns, he had to sell the phone box business because the local municipality and English heritage would not allow him to continue his takeaway service. Shafiq has now devised a new initiative, this time on a much larger scale.
Customers may pay for chai and specialties at Shafiq’s Chai Ada using digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, XRP, Verge, Litecoin, and Horizen.
Shafiq has created a software for this reason that is linked to his Chai Ada and allows payments to be done instantaneously from crypto wallet accounts to British pounds.
Shafiq told Geo News that he was blown away by the reception to his café just a week after it opened. He claims that bitcoins and other digital currencies account for around 20% of his payments thus far.
Crypto currencies are fraught with dangers, and several regulated international financial organisations have issued warnings against their usage, but the trend of utilising them is spreading.
Shafiq acknowledged that there are hazards, but he believes that this is the way of the future.
Furthermore, he stated, “We have to look into the future. I honestly believe that crypto is the future. It’s here to stay and it’s already working well. It has become a reality. When establishing Chai Ada, I believed that the Crypto, NFT, Metaverse (digital world) are the future and I just wanted to play my little part to encourage the use of cryptocurrency.”
