Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), raised Rs. 5 billion for the flood victims in Pakistan on Monday during a three-hour global telethon.
Along with other famous people and politicians, he was accompanied by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mahmood Khan, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Sania Nishtar, the former Special Assistant to the PM (SAPM) on Social Protection.
Senator Faisal Javed Khan chaired the event and stated that during a three-hour telethon for flood victims, the former prime minister raised more than Rs. 5 billion.
During the telethon, well-known British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan declared a gift of Rs. 5 million, while PM of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Ilyas Khan also gave Rs. 30 million.
According to the former prime minister, monsoon-related floods ravaged the entire nation, caused more than 1,000 fatalities, and are projected to cause losses worth more than Rs. 1,000 billion.
Despite being accused of 18 crimes, including terrorism, he declared that he will cooperate with the federal government and the Government of Sindh to help as many flood victims as possible.
Khan suggested that additional dams be built to protect people from similar disasters in the future.
“The sole solution to prevent the catastrophes caused by a flood is to construct dams,” he added.
