In a survey, PTA found poor quality standards of SMS and voice services

To evaluate the level of service provided by mobile operators, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) carried out a nationwide impartial survey.

The outcomes showed that while the voice and SMS services fall short of license requirements, the data services are compliant.

To evaluate the effectiveness and quality of the cellular mobile operators (CMOs) services being offered to their customers, the authority carried out an independent Quality of Service (QoS) Survey in 15 cities and eight highways, interstates, and motorways in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K).

Using a cutting-edge automated QoS Monitoring & Benchmarking Tool, the study comprised monitoring licensed KPIs for voice, network coverage, SMS, and mobile broadband/data.

The driving test teams chose the survey routes in a way that allowed them to cover the main roads, service roads, and most of the sectors and colonies in the survey areas.

Based on the degree of compliance with each KPI with the threshold specified in the relevant licenses and QoS Regulations as per compliance level in the surveyed cities and motorways/highways, the CMOs have been scored from one to five in Mobile Network Coverage and Voice Services.

In a similar vein, the Mobile Broadband Speed segment’s rating is based on the fastest data download speed.

The survey’s findings showed that while SMS and voice KPIs in Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan, and AJ&K were found to be below the licensed threshold, CMOs are generally in compliance with Broadband Services.

Finally, the operators received the appropriate instructions for taking remedial action to achieve an enhancement in the service quality up to the licensing norms.

The survey findings are available for subscribers to examine on the PTA website.

The PTA’s field teams are conducting the service quality monitoring activity with the ultimate goal of pressuring the operators to offer better mobile services and fostering healthy competition among the operators.
