Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and a former Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, supposedly had his official Instagram account hacked today.
When a spam message about American entrepreneur Elon Musk and cryptocurrencies was published from the PTI chief’s Instagram account, the intrusion was discovered.
“Thanks to Elon Musk for 3 BTC. Go to the site and get money,” the spam post appears to praise the founder of SpaceX for “donating” three bitcoins.
The tale that was posted along with the post has now been taken off.
The screenshot of Musk’s tweet was a hoax since the richest man in the world did not post it to his own account.
The PTI spokesperson has not yet addressed the situation, but the episode gained attention since Imran Khan has more than 7 million followers, most of whom are young people.
This incident is apparently the second of its kind in a short period of time after Asad Umar, the secretary general of the PTI and a former federal minister, had his Twitter account hacked last week.
Hammad Azhar, a former energy minister, had his email, Apple ID, and Twitter accounts hijacked in May of this year.
Hammad claimed that his phone and Twitter accounts had been hacked by the current federal administration. He claimed that his phone was connected to and his text messages and data were accessed via a phone finder (fake tower). The hacker then started sending reset requests to his Twitter account, Apple ID, and email.
