How your Google Photos memories will become much more like TikTok

Since a while ago, Google Photos has offered “Memories,” which are automatically created slideshows of photos and videos from a certain occasion or date. Other photographs and videos are already being added by Google, and additional features are on the way.

The majority of Memories now consist of images and brief films, which play sequentially when they are opened and follow the same style as Stories on social networking networks. Typically, they are described as having occurred “2 years ago,” “3 years ago,” and so on.

More films will be added to Memories starting today, including clips that are automatically cut from lengthier ones; the original videos won’t be altered, though. While you can still swipe left or right to switch between photographs in Memories, Google is also introducing the option to swipe up or down to switch between Memories, similar to how you would do it in TikTok’s mainstream.

In Memories, photos will also seem slightly different. Instrumental music will be played throughout the photographs and movies, and images will have a small zoom effect. According to Google, the new “Cinematic Memories” experience includes all the new modifications. Like you currently can with regular images and movies, you will be able to share memories with friends and family.

Anyone who has used Google Photos for a long time would recognize all of this. While it was still a part of Google+, Google Photographs was able to automatically create movies from your photos and videos that included background music.

You can still create them manually from the Photos apps and website, though that functionality has been reduced over time, possibly because rendering video that few people will view isn’t a great use of server resources. Now, Google is adding some of that flare to Memories, which is more widely used.
