Even though WhatsApp provides end-to-end encryption to keep conversations private and safe online, users still need to take precautions to protect their own privacy and security when using the app. The app provided the ability to lock the entire app so that its users could safeguard their data from being accessed by an unauthorised third party.
For more privacy and security, the IM service has introduced a new Chat Lock function that can be used on both one-on-one and group conversations.
Here’s how to implement this functionality and secure specific conversations within WhatsApp:
- Secures both one-on-one and group conversations
- Keeps the person or group hidden from the main Chats list
- Removes glimpse of incoming messages from notification tray
- locks conversations and stores them on a new Locked Chat tab
- Chats can be password, PIN, or biometrically locked.
Pre-requisites
- Verify that the most recent version of WhatsApp is running on your mobile device.
- Real-time WhatsApp connection
Steps
- Use your upgraded WhatsApp by opening it on your phone.
- To lock the chat of a specific contact, either scroll through the list or use the search bar.
- Tap the contact’s name at the top of the chat window to open it.
- Select the Lock Chat option by scrolling down.
- To use, turn on the switch and enter your passcode or screen lock.
- Keep in mind that WhatsApp will automatically use your phone’s lock screen to secure your conversations.
- So long! WhatsApp has now secured that conversation. If there are more conversations you wish to secure, follow the same steps.
Methods for unlocking the conversation
- WhatsApp’s secret conversations are now grouped together in a single tab. Private Conversations.
- To access Locked Chat, slide down from the top of the chat list screen.
- A simple tap and verification will take you there. You will have access to all of your private messages.
