“Silence unknown callers” is a new option in WhatsApp that instantly mutes calls from unknown numbers. Indian WhatsApp users demanded this enhancement after receiving an influx of spam calls. WhatsApp announced that it is working to significantly decrease spam and fraudulent calls within the app by 50% with the use of AI and ML.
The Silence Unknown Callers feature was developed so that users could screen incoming calls in private.
To keep you safe, it filters out unwanted communications like spam and prevents calls from unknown numbers. These calls won’t ring, but they will show up in your Call history in case you need to speak with the person who called.
Steps to silence an unknown WhatsApp caller
- To use WhatsApp on an Android, iPhone, or other device, step one is to launch the app.
- Navigate to the “Settings” section.
- To access Android’s settings, tap the menu button with three dots in the upper right. On iOS, meantime, you’ll want to select the gear icon in the app’s bottom left.
- After that, go to the settings menu and select “Privacy.”
- Afterwards, go to “Calls,” and from there, “Silence unknown callers.”
If you get an unknown call or spam call, you can simply ignore it, but it’s best practice to block and report the number nevertheless.
The “Block” button can be found in the conversation with the unknown number once you open it. You can block the person and then report them by selecting “Report contact” and then “Block.” If you block someone, they won’t be able to get in touch with you by phone or text and won’t be able to view your profile or updates.
