How to modify whatsapp group privacy settings in 4 easy step

WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is a messaging and calling app that also lets users exchange media and documents. In addition to its main messaging functionalities, WhatsApp now includes a number of privacy and security enhancements. End-to-end encryption, disappearing messages, blacklisting of unwanted contacts, and two-factor authentication are just a few examples.

However, anyone who has your phone number can use WhatsApp to send you texts or add you to any group you choose. WhatsApp’s default setting for group privacy is “Everyone.”

WhatsApp also lets you change your settings to restrict who can add you to groups, providing an extra layer of anonymity. It’s important to remember that WhatsApp Web and Desktop don’t allow you to modify the privacy settings for groups. However, any adjustments made on your mobile device will reflect on your computer’s WhatsApp Web and Desktop clients.

Here’s how to adjust your Android phone’s group privacy settings:

  1. The WhatsApp mobile app should be launched.
  2. Select the enigmatical three-dot button.
  3. The Privacy Menu
  4. Click on Groups under that.

Here are the measures you should take on your iOS device:

  1. Get WhatsApp started on your iPhone.
  2. Select Preferences now.
  3. The Privacy Menu
  4. Click on Groups under that.

There are three privacy options available to WhatsApp users: Everyone, My Contacts, and My Contacts Except. Let’s compare these three possibilities:

Everyone

This means that anyone, not just those in your address book, can add you to groups without your knowledge or consent.

My Contacts

The only people who can add you to groups without asking permission are those in your phone’s address book (and not Everyone). If the group’s administrator attempts to add you without first verifying your contact information, they will see a message explaining that they cannot do so and giving them the option to either touch Invite to Group or hit Continue before sending the request. A group invite link will then be sent to your personal chat. There will be a three-day window for you to respond to the invitation.

My Contacts Except

The only people who can add you to a WhatsApp group outside of your phone’s address book are the people already in it. Select My Contacts Except and then choose the people you don’t wish to see. If the group admin tries to add you after you’ve been removed, they’ll get a message saying they can’t and will be asked to add you again by tapping Invite to Group and then the send button. After that, a link to join the group chat will appear in your personal chat. There will be a three-day window for you to respond to the invitation.
