Cybercriminals are tricking users into downloading malware-ridden versions of In-page by promising to do so in fake emails. The Cabinet Division has issued an advice warning that multiple government entities have discovered email accounts being used to trick people into visiting dangerous In pages. Senior civilian and military officials are frequent targets of phishing emails sent by hostile intelligence agencies.
According to the alert, the malware executes once the user downloads a malicious In-page attachment and leverages In-page’s known vulnerabilities to acquire access to the target system and exfiltrate data to its C & C Server. The national gateway has already banned a rogue C&C server. The cabinet division has requested that the IT department block the following malicious C&C and phony email address: advnasirchugtai1920@gmail.comb
Govt blames India for fake emails
The Cabinet Office claims that “Concept Software Private Limited” of India is responsible for creating In-page. Its use is akin to playing with fire. The advise suggests that, rather than using In-page, readers switch to Microsoft World (in Urdu) or World Press Processor. Users under duress should upgrade to the most recent In-page premium version. Free and cracked versions of In-page should be avoided.
Users are cautioned in the advise not to download anything from untrusted sources or open links from suspect accounts. It has urged its customers to run their antivirus software on every file they download before opening it.
The alert has urged users to always retain a backup of their vital data in separate systems or on external storage. Users are encouraged to implement more secure password practices across all of their online accounts, including financial, postal, and social media ones.
