The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) opened an investigation into the claims that Gerry’s provided hundreds of travelers in Pakistan with fake Covid-19 certifications during the pandemic.
Numerous complaints filed with the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad by foreign travelers and their families.
They alleged that Gerry’s provided them with extremely expensive fraudulent coronavirus certificates.
FIA Issued Notice To Gerry’s on Issuing Fake COVID-19 Certificates
The top management of Gerry’s International Islamabad received a notice from the FIA requesting an explanation of the authorization, source, and procedure for providing Covid-19 certificates to passengers.
“It appears that you are acquainted with the circumstances of the subject matter, which is under probe at this circle under the FIA Act, 1974 read with Chapter XIV of the Code of the Criminal Procedure, 1898,” the FIA notice read.
However, the head of the FIA investigating team, Afzal Niazi, revealed that they gathered some proof of the fraud in which hundreds of passengers given unapproved credentials.
“It looks like a big scam where fake and unauthorized documents have prepared for the sake of this business….. but we are probing the matter carefully,” he said.
Questions Asked To Gerry’s
The following queries have asked to Gerry’s management by the FIA:
- Under which authority was Gerry’s International authorized to issue Covid-19 certificates?
- From which labs did Gerry’s International obtain and use Covid-19 certificates?
- Who processed and issued Covid-19 certificates? Also provide details of employees who processed the said certificates.?
- How many Covid-19 certificates issued by Gerry’s International?
- Was Gerry’s International registered under the Ministry of Health and did it have inspection reports of labs?
Investigation
The FIA team instructed Gerry’s management to appear before Inspector Zahid Bhatti, the inquiry officer, on December 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM, with the attested copies of the aforementioned information.
However, the investigation is conducting by Inspector (Investigation) Zahid Bhatti of the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad.
Furthermore, for their side of the story, local media reached out to Gerry’s management; however, they remained silent until filing of this report.
