General Asim Munir took charge of the Pakistan Army during the Change of Command ceremony, which was held Tuesday morning at GHQ in Rawalpindi.
General Asim Munir received the command from General Qamar Javed Bajwa after the general gave a farewell salute.
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, chose him last week to succeed Gen. Bajwa.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, is joined by senior active and retired officers, diplomats, and government officials.
Both Gen. Bajwa and Gen. Munir placed a wreath and offered Fatiha at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada (Monument to Martyrs) in GHQ before the ceremony.
About General Asim Munir
Gen. Asim Munir enlisted in the military through the Mangla Officers Training School (OTS) program and was commissioned into the Frontier Force Regiment’s 23rd Battalion.
As a brigadier, Gen. Munir oversaw soldiers in the Force Command Northern Areas for Gen. Bajwa, who was then the Commander X Corps.
Early in 2017, he was named director general of military intelligence. In October 2018, he was named Director General (DG) of the ISI.
He was appointed Gujranwala Corps Commander eight months later. Two years later, he was appointed Quartermaster General at the GHQ.
The 17th course of the Officers Training School in Mangla awarded Gen. Asim Munir the Sword of Honor. He has also been awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz.
He is a “Hafiz-e-Quran” who memorized the Quran while serving as a Lt. Colonel in Saudi Arabia.
