Geely FX11 hybrid SUV has been revealed ahead of its debut

The new Geely FX11 hybrid SUV has been revealed ahead of its debut in the Chinese market in August 2022. According to international media, the FX11 will be a successor to the Boyue SUV, which is the basis for the Proton X70 and has been on the market since 2016.

Boyue has long been the best-selling Geely model in China, but sales have begun to decline since August 2021. Only 10,707 models were sold in May 2022, a 41 percent decrease from the previous year’s figures.

The main reason for the drop in sales is its age; despite multiple facelifts, the vehicle is still 6 years old underneath. So, it is clear that the FX11 will replace the Boyue, though the name FX11 is not yet final.

The FX11 concept is based on the Vision Starburst concept, which was revealed in June 2021. The headlights are vertically integrated into the bumper on the front end.

An array of dashed lights with a lit-up Geely emblem in between sits atop a mesh grille, giving the vehicle a very distinct and identifiable front end. A full-width light bar connects boomerang-shaped LED lights at the rear.

The vehicle will be built on Geely’s latest Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, which is used in the company’s small and compact vehicles.

Volvo and Geely collaborated to develop the technology under the China Euro Vehicle Technology AB (CEVT) R&D banner. This platform is already used by a number of Volvo, Geely, and Lynk & Co. vehicles.

Though few details are available at this time, sources indicate that the FX11 will be equipped with the GEEA 2.0 computing platform, which will enable L2 autonomous driving capabilities.

The powertrain will be a hybrid system with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine and a powerful electric motor. The power output can reach 317hp, and the drive range is said to be over 1,000 km. The Geely FX11 hybrid is expected to make its public debut at the 2022 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 26th, 2022.
