The government of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) has developed a comprehensive strategy to properly manage and oversee environmental concerns surrounding tourism destinations that are under increased pressure.
Additionally, several important projects are set to be approved by the cabinet in the coming days. These measures represent a significant step forward in tackling environmental challenges in tourism areas.
GB Chief Secretary Statement
“One of the prominent initiatives is the formulation of guidelines governing the establishment of tourist facilities within ecologically sensitive and critical regions”, said Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan Muhiudeen Wani in an official statement to the media.
He said, “These guidelines have successfully cleared the evaluation process by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Business.”
Moreover, he noted that, targeted final cabinet approval, they will be enacted and enforced in the near future.
According to Secretary GB, a proactive approach to environmentally conscious procedures and the development of eco-friendly tourist sites is underway via extensive strategic planning of ecologically fragile and essential zones.
Attaabad Lake Master Plan
“The Attaabad Lake Area Master Plan has reached its final stages of preparation and awaits the endorsement of the cabinet,” Chief Secretary GB added.
However, he stated that, following the approval of the PC II, competent experts have been hired to steer this project in the right way.
He stated that the Skardu Master Plan is now being debated and is expected to be approved by the Skardu Development Authority.
