Federal Government Declares February 5 Public Holiday for Kashmir Solidarity Day

The federal government of Pakistan has officially declared February 5, 2026, as a nationwide public holiday to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day. The announcement was made through a press release issued by the Cabinet Division, confirming that the holiday will be observed across the country.

Closure of Offices Nationwide

According to the notification, all public and private offices will remain closed on February 5. This includes government departments, private institutions, and educational organizations, except for essential services, which will continue to operate as usual.

One Minute Silence at 10 AM

The federal government has also announced that a one minute silence will be observed at 10:00 am across Pakistan. This silence will be held to pay tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir and to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

Sindh Government Issues Separate Notification

Separately, the Sindh government has issued its own notification declaring February 5 as a public holiday in the province. All government offices, autonomous and semi autonomous bodies, local councils, and provincial institutions will remain closed, except essential services. The Sindh government has also directed institutions to observe the one minute silence at 10:00 am.

Significance of Kashmir Solidarity Day

Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed every year to express Pakistan’s support for the people of Indian occupied Kashmir and to reaffirm their right to self determination. On this day, rallies, seminars, and special programs are organized across the country to highlight the Kashmir issue and show unity with the Kashmiri people.
