Over 0.5 million people who do not show on the active taxpayer list but are required to file an income tax return for tax year 2023 have had their SIM cards disabled by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through the issuance of the Income Tax General Order (ITGO).
The comprehensive list includes the names of 506,671 individuals who are required to file an income tax return for the tax year 2023 but are not listed as active taxpayers.
FBR’s General Order
According to the FBR’s General Order, the aforementioned people’s mobile SIM cards will be prohibited until they are unblocked by FBR or the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, whichever has jurisdiction over them.
With immediate effect, all telecom operators and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) must guarantee that this ITGO is followed.
The decision further stated that the compliance report in this regard must be positively provided to FBR by May 15, 2024.
To get their mobile phone services restored in accordance with the ITGO, FBR asked people to immediately take care of their tax obligations and file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2023 by providing accurate declarations in a post on X.
