PSL 2026 Fakhar Zaman Ball Tampering Ban Upheld

The issue arose during a tight PSL 2026 clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, when on-field umpires raised concerns about the condition of the ball. Umpires inspected the ball after it passed through Fakhar Zaman and other players, and concluded that it had been deliberately altered. This led to five penalty runs awarded to Karachi Kings and the replacement of the ball, impacting the game’s final stages.

Initial Sanction by Match Referee

Following the match, match referee Roshan Mahanama charged Fakhar Zaman with a Level 3 offence for attempting to change the condition of the ball one of the most serious violations outside of corruption cases. After a disciplinary hearing, Zaman was handed a two-match suspension, preventing him from featuring in the upcoming fixtures against Multan Sultans and Islamabad United

Fakhar Zaman Appeal

Fakhar Zaman strongly denied any wrongdoing and filed an appeal, arguing there was insufficient conclusive evidence to support the charge. He requested the PSL Technical Committee to overturn the ban and allow him to play in the remaining fixtures. The appeal prompted a full review of all available material and statements from the match officials and players.

Technical Committee Upholds the Ban

The PSL Technical Committee, comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband, and Mr Syed Ali Naqi, conducted a de novo review a complete reconsideration of the evidence and arguments. After analyzing the submissions and match footage, the committee dismissed Fakhar Zaman’s appeal and confirmed the two-match suspension. The committee emphasized that the ruling is final and binding, in line with the league’s Code of Conduct.

Implications for PSL 2026

This decision highlights the PSL’s commitment to strict enforcement of conduct standards. While Fakhar Zaman and supporters maintain his innocence, the ruling reinforces the seriousness of ball-tampering offences and sets a precedent for future disciplinary cases. Lahore Qalandars will now need to adjust their squad strategies for the next two matches, knowing that Fakhar will be unavailable against Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.
