The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) now lets FSc pre-medical students join BS Engineering programs. This is because fewer people are applying for engineering. Before they start, these students must take an eight-week math course.

Dr. Nasir Mahmood Khan from PEC said that universities used to make 30,000 engineers each year. Now, only 20,000 students are applying. Some schools even closed their engineering programs. PEC wants more pre-medical students to join and help fix this problem.

This decision came after talking with university leaders and experts. Dr. Khan said engineering helps the country grow. He also talked about paid training and STEM education.

On July 11, PEC sent a letter to the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The letter explained what happened at the 49th meeting on June 28. Now, pre-medical students can apply for engineering programs. Universities must follow these new rules.

PEC’s rules say that entry tests will change for new students. Students must take an eight-week math course first. This lets them start engineering programs for now. Universities will check that the program is good. Up to 40% of seats can be for pre-medical students.

Students need to pass one more test to join fully. The letter says universities can change when they admit students. PEC wants students to have at least 60% in HSSC to join engineering.

PEC is changing the rules and will tell more soon. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) got the PEC letter and will check it.
