Rana Tanveer Hussain, the federal minister of education and vocational training, has taken note of the $1,500 monthly price for bus transportation at federal government-run institutions and universities.
According to the specifics, he has instructed the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to immediately revoke the decision and declared that the pupils will not be charged any such costs.
Because of several demonstrations and concerns from the parents of the students, FDE has prohibited the universities from charging the transportation fare.
In this respect, Dr. Ikram Ali Malik, Director-General (DG) of FDE, presided over a meeting where strong concerns were voiced about the bus costs since the decision increased the strain on parents and increased the possibility of student dropout. As a result, the government’s initiative to teach out-of-school kids would have been jeopardised.
Additionally, the FDE has ordered all educational institutions and their management committees to immediately stop collecting bus payments.
The Islamabad Model Colleges’ College Management Committee (CMC) had announced an increased transportation cost for students of Rs. 1,500 per month, payable quarterly.
It sent out a formal notification and informed the students that if they didn’t pay the charge by the due date, they wouldn’t be permitted to ride school or college buses.
