Ten years of uninterrupted expansion in the mobile game downloading market gave the business an air of invincibility, but the coronavirus outbreak threw a wrench into those plans. As a result, widespread economic upheaval and inflation made expansion significantly more challenging than it otherwise would have been. The value of global mobile gaming companies has dropped as a result of the increased difficulty of targeting specific users.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s worth noting that there were 89.7 billion mobile game downloads last month. Despite the all-time high in downloads, consumers spent 5% less on mobile gaming applications in 2023 than they did in 2022. While customers are downloading more mobile games than ever before, it appears they are not spending as much money on them.
Notably, the totals for 2022 sill exceed the records set before the pandemic. The total amount spent by consumers on mobile games in 2019 was roughly $86 billion. In contrast, gaming applications brought in almost $109.5 billion in revenue that in 2022.
All things considered, this is still a whopping $23 billion rise from 2019, albeit being around a half a billion dollars lower than the projections projected in 2021. In addition, many games, including Genshin Impact, are reaching hitherto unachieved levels of financial success. In the second quarter of 2022, Genshin Impact’s total lifetime in-app transactions topped $3 billion.
Due to the surge in downloads mobile gaming industry is still promising
It’s evident that gamers are prepared to spend a lot of money on their favorite titles. Furthermore, super casual games, which are not known for in-app spending from consumers due to the fact that this is the sort of thing that may potentially wind up scaring away users, accounted for a large portion of the surge in downloads.
Whether or not this slight decline persists into the following year is something to keep an eye on. Even if that happens, the future of the game app sector is promising.
