New artificial intelligence (AI) powered smart glasses that allow deaf people to listen in on real-time conversations by reading subtitles are a recent example of innovative technology making a positive difference.
These glasses, branded XRAI Glass, were created by combining standard augmented reality (AR) glasses with an AI-powered smartphone app.
This cutting-edge technology also allows you to rewind the conversation and acts as a personal assistant, remembering what you might have forgotten.

Not only that, but the live captioning app can translate into nine languages, with more to follow in the coming months. The translation is done in near-real time, so the wearer can keep up with the conversation.
Mitchell Feldman, co-founder and chief marketing officer of XRAI Glass, described it as “Alexa in front of your eyes,” which is an apt analogy.
Co-founder Dan Scarfe was inspired to create this product after his 97-year-old grandfather developed hearing loss and found it increasingly difficult to participate in family gatherings.
“Where his grandfather came to life the most was watching television and using subtitles,” Feldman said.
He added, “If he enjoys captioning, why can’t we caption his life? And that was the genesis of how this product started.”
