A vehicle that lacks a steering wheel and suspension system? The Sherp all-terrain vehicle has arrived. Despite its inability to turn its front wheels and the presence of springs on all of its wheels, the Sherp is capable of traversing any terrain in its path. In fact, it can float on water due to its buoyant body and specially designed paddle wheels.
While the Sherp is an undeniably capable amphibious vehicle, the question of whether it can climb the Moab, Utah, rocks remains. As we all know, the terrains of Moab are out of the ordinary; the rocks are slippery, and the trail becomes more difficult as you progress. It’s like a Mecca for off-roaders and thrill seekers in North America. The obvious answer is yes, given the vehicle’s other capabilities, but a video from Far from Ordinary on YouTube (embedded above this page) shows an actual Sherp climbing through the rocks.
As you can see, even for Moab’s difficult rock climbs, the Sherp’s embedded tyre inflation/deflation system was its best weapon.
The Sherp did struggle at times, but with adjustments and techniques used by its operator, the ATV finished the job, erasing any doubt about the Sherp’s claim to fame. What’s cool about the video is that the owner of the Sherp invited the video owner to join him on the ride, and he brought the kids with him. I can only imagine how much fun the kids had inside the massive ATV.
