Chevrolet is developing a Corvette that is all electric

One of Chevy’s most iconic cars will be converted to an electric vehicle.GM has stated that a “totally electric” Corvette is in the works, with a “electrified” (read: hybrid) version arriving in 2023.

The manufacturer didn’t disclose any additional information, and even the teaser’s accompanying film (below) doesn’t reveal anything.

Still, it’s a significant step forward: the Vette has long been associated with gas-powered American sports vehicles, and now it will serve as a model for electrification.

To be sure, a Corvette EV isn’t wholly unexpected. By 2035, GM aims to sell entirely electric vehicles, and the Vette could only make it through with an electric powertrain.

Furthermore, GM’s electrification strategy has focused on higher-priced halo cars like as the Hummer EV.

Customers who were previously disinterested in EVs or considering rivals like the Porsche Taycan or even Ford’s Mustang Mach-E GT would be interested in an electric version of Chevy’s sports coupe.

GM’s electrification initiatives have now spread to nearly every section of the market. The next Silverado EV is aimed at well-heeled truck drivers, while the Cadillac Lyriq caters to luxury shoppers, and the future Blazer and Equinox models are aimed at the general public.

In light of this, it was only a matter of time before Chevy’s iconic vehicle ditched traditional engines.
