Rana Tanveer Hussain, the federal minister of education, plans to send a letter to Cambridge demanding that a chapter about “same-sex families” be deleted from an O-level Sociology textbook because it is “highly objectionable.”

The senators Mohsin Aziz and Faisal Saleem Rehman expressed worry about the book’s content because they believed it to be against Islamic and cultural teachings as well as Pakistani society’s values.

Letter to Cambridge

The education minister responded by assuring the Senate that a letter is being sent to Cambridge and that, if the part is not removed, the government will not permit such books.

The Minister also stated that he would write to the provinces to urge them to take the appropriate action in this respect.

The Minister agreed with the senators’ points of view, saying that the material had nothing to do with Pakistan or its culture or principles.

Senator Mohsin Aziz voiced his disgust with the “same-sex family” chapter, saying that it could not even be brought up in the nation’s family structure.

He expressed concern about the sort of education being given to children who are 14, 15, and 16.

The senator apologised for using terms like “lesbian” and “gay” in the chapter while reading out some of the material during the Senate session. He also questioned how the officials could have missed such information.
