A base rate increase of up to Rs. 7.50/unit has been approved by the Federal Cabinet for a number of residential power user categories.
The federal government requested permission from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to modify subsidies for different customer groups. This adjustment will be included in the average base rate increase of Rs. 4.96/unit.
NEPRA Permission to Cabinet
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has given the federal government permission to increase the base power tariff by Rs. 4.96/unit (or 20%), bringing the country’s average electricity price to Rs. 29.78/unit.
For XWDiscos and KE, an increase of Rs. 7.5/unit from the existing Rs. 35.22/unit to Rs. 42.72/unit has been proposed in a motion that the federal government submitted to NEPRA for advice on consumer end uniform pricing recommendations.
There is no change in the pricing for lifeline and protected clients, who use up to 200 units each month.
The proposed rate increase of Rs. 3 per unit will increase the existing per-unit cost from Rs. 13.48 to Rs. 16.48 for non-protected residential customers using 1 to 100 units.
