Fortune magazine published its 2022 Fortune Global 500 list today, ranking BYD at No. 436 with revenues of $32.8 billion in 2021, its first appearance on the list.
According to a Fortune press release, BYD officially announced in April that it would discontinue production of cars powered solely by internal combustion engines, with all product focus shifting to new energy models.
BYD is more than a Fortune 500 company with a business that isn’t just cars and isn’t limited to China, according to a post on the company’s official WeChat account today.
BYD has four businesses – automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics – and has become a Fortune 500 company that provides new energy overall solutions after 27 years of development, according to the company.
BYD sold 638,157 new energy passenger vehicles in the first half of 2022, up 324.8 percent year on year.
According to the company, BYD’s NEV footprint spans six continents, more than 70 countries and regions, and over 400 cities worldwide. On July 21, BYD announced its official entry into the Japanese market, ushering in a new chapter in the internationalization of passenger cars.
Carbon emission reduction and new energy development are currently global consensuses, according to BYD, and the company is committed to providing new energy solutions globally.
BYD sold a record 134,036 NEVs in June, marking the company’s fourth consecutive month with more than 100,000 units sold. The company’s July sales figures are expected to be released shortly.
The 2022 Fortune China 500 list was released on July 12, taking into account the performance and achievements of the world’s largest publicly traded Chinese companies over the previous year. NIO and Li Auto made their first appearances on the Fortune China 500 list, ranking 344th and 427th, respectively.
