BYD EVs Islamabad Police departments have received a new batch of electric vehicles, marking a big step in Pakistan’s push for green transport. Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official partner of BYD in Pakistan, handed over the vehicles to both Islamabad Capital Police and Islamabad Traffic Police on 29 June 2026. This is part of a wider plan to replace petrol-powered police vehicles with cleaner electric ones.
BYD EVs Islamabad Police: What Happened?
Senior leaders from BYD China flew to Islamabad for the handover event. The delegation was led by Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Company Limited and General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division. Senior Islamabad Police officers also attended, including Muhammad Haroon Joya, Director General Safe City and DIG Traffic, and Kainat Azhar Khan, Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad.
This is not the first time these departments have received BYD electric vehicles. The new delivery builds on an earlier batch, showing that both police departments are serious about switching to electric mobility over time.
Why Is This Important for Pakistan?
Pakistan spends a lot of money importing petrol and diesel. Electric vehicles help cut this cost. They also produce less pollution, which is good for cities like Islamabad. The government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asked public-sector departments to adopt electric vehicles as part of a Green Mobility programme.
Muhammad Haroon Joya said, “We have embarked on this journey to support the Prime Minister’s vision of Green Mobility Adoption, and we believe BYD was the right choice to help us achieve that objective.” He added that the long-term goal is to move the entire Islamabad Police fleet to electric vehicles step by step.
Kainat Azhar Khan said the new vehicles will help the traffic police do its job better while also cutting fuel costs and helping the environment.
BYD’s Message for Pakistan
Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD, said the adoption of BYD EVs Islamabad Police shows that public departments are ready to move towards smarter and cleaner transport. He said, “As Pakistan seeks to reduce its dependence on imported petroleum products and protect the environment, the adoption of electric vehicles across both public and private sectors will play an increasingly critical role.”
He also said BYD will keep investing in Pakistan to support the country’s goals for clean energy transport.
MMC’s Role in Pakistan’s EV Growth
Danish Khaliq, VP Sales and Strategy at Mega Motor Company, said this partnership shows growing trust in electric vehicle technology in Pakistan. He said MMC is committed to helping the government meet its green goals while also making public transport more efficient and cost-effective.
MMC is the official dealer and partner of BYD in Pakistan. The company handles sales, delivery, and after-sales support for BYD vehicles across the country.
What Are BYD Electric Vehicles?
BYD stands for Build Your Dreams. It is one of the world’s biggest makers of electric vehicles, based in China. Electric vehicles run on batteries instead of petrol or diesel. They cost less to run, need less maintenance, and produce no direct exhaust. This makes them a good choice for fleet use in government departments.
Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle Push
Pakistan has been working to grow its EV market. The government has offered tax breaks and other benefits to encourage people and organisations to buy electric vehicles. The delivery of BYD EVs to Islamabad Police departments is one of the most visible signs that this push is working at a government level.
With more public departments expected to follow, the BYD EVs Islamabad Police deal could set a strong example for other cities and provinces across Pakistan.
Mega Motor Company says it will continue to expand BYD’s footprint in Pakistan, with plans to support both government and private buyers as the country moves towards a cleaner transport future.
