The United States and Israel officials admit Biden’s Gaza ceasefire plan last week was a modified version of a mediator’s proposal.
The White House said the plan came from Israel. An Israeli official told NBC News it was a plan with some changes made by Israel.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the proposal was “almost the same” as one Hamas made weeks ago.
Hamas said it liked Biden’s plan on Friday but hasn’t said more since then.
The G7 agreed with Biden’s plan on Monday. Israel doesn’t like it, media reports say.
Israel said no before to a plan like Biden’s from Qatar and Egypt, which Hamas liked on May 6. The US also liked that plan.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Israel would agree to Biden’s ceasefire and prisoner release deal.
But Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel will keep fighting until it wins. It wants to destroy Hamas’s military and government.
Israeli media asked if Biden and Netanyahu’s teams talked before Biden’s speech. They asked how long any ceasefire would last and when and how many prisoners would get free.

Another poll shows 79% of Arab Americans don’t like Biden. More of them don’t like him than didn’t like Donald Trump. Many Arab Americans live in states like Michigan and Wisconsin. Biden needs those states to win again.
Polls also show why Biden wants to be different from Netanyahu.
Some people think Biden is saying the peace plan is Israel’s idea to help Netanyahu.
