BAIC introduces a new BJ40 model

A brand-new BJ40 version inspired by the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been revealed by BAIC for China. The SUV, known as the BJ40 Kekexili Edition, features more off-road gear than ordinary models.

The term “Kekexili” refers to a location in China that is part of the world’s largest and most difficult plateau, the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.

The blocky appearance of the BJ40 is nevertheless reminiscent of the Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Off-road modifications like a front bash bar, a heavy-duty metal bumper, a scuff plate, auxiliary lights, a new vented bumper, a roof rack, knobbly 17-inch offroad tires, anti-drop wheels, etc., however, give the car an even more aggressive look.

The remainder of its hardware is identical to that of the regular versions. It boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates 221 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. Depending on the settings, the 6-speed automated transmission may send this power to the rear wheels or all four wheels.

For serious off-roading, it also boasts a low-range mode and a locking differential. The BJ40 has a unique design in addition to having appropriate adventure vehicle characteristics including a removable roof, moveable doors, and a foldable windshield.
