Babar Azam announced his decision to resign as Pakistan captain in a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on today (15th November).

“Today I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all three formats. It is a difficult decision, but I feel it is the right time for this call,” he said.

“I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats. I am here to support the new captain and the team with my experience and dedication,” he added.

Furthermore, he had a disappointing campaign with Pakistan in the ongoing One-Day International World Cup in India, finishing fifth with eight points from nine matches.

On a personal level, he scored 320 runs in nine World Cup matches, the third most for Pakistan, at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 82.90.

According to the details, he made the announcement in an official statement following a meeting with PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf.
