Auto Sector Posts Record Sales in June of FY22

Challenge all chances, Passenger car sales in Pakistan soared to a historic high of 28,379 units in June 2022, up 24 percent from the previous month and 106 percent from the same month a year ago.

Significant growth in 4-wheeler sales occurred across all segments, but was led by the most expensive SUV segment, followed by the most affordable cars under 1,000cc engine capacity. However, sales of 2- and 3-wheelers have decreased.

Based on old advance booking orders received a few months ago and now being delivered, total passenger car sales increased by 55 percent to 234,180 units in FY22 from 151,182 units in FY21.

SUV sales were 45,087 units in FY22, up from 30,215 units in FY21, representing a 50 percent increase.

Toyota Hilux and Fortuner sales alone increased by 70% from 10,586 units in FY21 to 18,005 units in FY22.

According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the Suzuki Alto 660cc was the best-selling car in FY21, selling 71,198 units compared to 37,720 units in FY21, representing an 89 percent increase.

This was followed by 56,526 Toyota Yaris and Corolla (combined) sales, up from 46,650 units sold the previous year.

Honda Civic and City came in third place, with a 39% increase in sales to 35,197 units, up from 25,276 in FY21.

Suzuki Cultus and WagonR sales increased by 32% and 83%, respectively, to 23,169 and 23,131 units, up from 17,510 and 12,659 units previously. Bolan sales increased by 51%, from 8,196 to 12,361 units. Suzuki Swift sales increased from 2,316 to 6,190 units. The Hyundai Elantra and Sonata have sold 3,610 and 2,782 units, respectively.
