Three tertiary care hospitals in Karachi will be given to the Sindh government by the federal health ministry for 25 years. The agreement between the federal and provincial governments will be signed in Sukkur.
The Sindh Health Department will formally take over management of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), and National Institute of Child Health (NICH).
According to a Supreme Court (SC) decision, these hospitals are federally owned but have been operated by the provincial health department. Local management of these hospitals was favored by both the previous and present governments to federal control.
In Sukkur, the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) Medical Complex will be formally inaugurated by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. There are 170 beds available and 70 dialysis machines at this facility. He will also be in charge of the official contract signing.
Although there are worries about costs associated with running JPMC, NICVD, and NICH after devolution under the 18th amendment, debates of provincial government spending are not currently a priority.
The federal government was earlier ordered by SC to pay the provincial government’s healthcare expenditures.
Additionally, FM Bilalwal Bhutto Zardari will open a SICHN satellite facility in Sukkur that will serve the medical requirements of upper Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan.
The Korangi district has been served by SICHN, which has its headquarters in Karachi, with first-rate medical facilities. A noteworthy accomplishment is the establishment of its first satellite facility outside of Karachi.
