Authorities Alert Public Over Fake E-Challan Messages

Authorities in Karachi and Punjab have issued urgent warnings after multiple complaints surfaced regarding fake e-challan messages being circulated among citizens. These fraudulent SMS demand immediate payment of traffic fines and attempt to mislead people by using the names of official departments. Officials clarified that these messages are completely false, with no association to government traffic police systems or legitimate challan services operating in the country.

Karachi Police Identify Fraudulent Payment Links

The Karachi Traffic Police revealed that scammers have been sending misleading SMS connected to mobile payment services such as Easypaisa. These fake challan messages are designed to trick individuals into paying money into unauthorized accounts. Police confirmed that genuine e-challans are never sent through private or suspicious links. Citizens are being strongly cautioned not to make payments through such messages under any circumstances.

Helpline Established for Public Assistance

To counter the rising number of cases, Karachi Traffic Police has reminded the public that official assistance is available through its dedicated helpline. Citizens who receive suspicious messages can immediately call 1915 to verify their challan status or report fraudulent attempts. The helpline serves as a direct channel for queries, enabling individuals to protect themselves from scams while ensuring their traffic fines, if any, are addressed correctly.

Punjab Safe City Authority Issues Clarification

In Punjab, the Safe City Authority has also voiced concerns after several complaints surfaced regarding fake challan SMS. Officials emphasized that authentic traffic challan messages are only issued from the official number 8070. Any message received from a number other than 8070 must be treated as fraudulent. Furthermore, authorities highlighted that genuine challan notices never request sensitive details such as bank account information.

Verification Through the ePay Punjab Application

To safeguard against scams, Punjab authorities have urged citizens to use only government-verified platforms for payment. The ePay Punjab application allows individuals to securely check, verify, and pay their traffic challans. Additionally, citizens can rely on official government websites for accurate information. By using only these authenticated digital platforms, people can avoid falling prey to fake challan schemes spread by fraudsters across the province.

Public Urged to Stay Alert and Report Fraud

Both Karachi and Punjab officials have reiterated the importance of public awareness in combating such scams. Citizens are advised to remain cautious, never disclose personal information to suspicious numbers, and immediately report fraudulent SMS. Strict action is being planned against cybercriminals engaged in spreading fake challans. Authorities also reminded the public that all authentic challan information is exclusively available through government-approved applications and designated helplines.
