Shafqat Mahmood, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, opened the Center of Excellence in Modern Technologies at the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) in Islamabad on Friday.
The center will train Chief Master Trainers and Master Trainers, who would subsequently teach adolescents how to use current technologies.
This would pave the path for the Pakistani technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector to improve training and assessment, career counselling, and job placement on a long-term basis.
The Minister, speaking at the opening ceremony, underlined the importance of establishing more centres of excellence to deliver state-of-the-art cutting-edge technical training to the youth.
He emphasized that there is a significant demand for this product both internationally and in the industry.
According to the Minister, the government has given the TVET sector great importance and has allocated Rs. 10 billion under the Kamyab Jawan Program.
He stated that the government continues to place a high value on skills training, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, robots, and cyber security.
He told the audience that the government had set a goal for NAVTTC to develop one million skilled youth workers, and that having such a large pool of qualified labor would significantly help the employment market and industry.
“The government is focusing on bringing reforms in the TVET sector to bring the technical and vocational training in line with the requirements of the marketplace in order to prepare the workforce with accreditation from international bodies,” he concluded.
Sajid Baloch, Executive Director of NAVTTC, informed the donors that NAVTTC was totally committed to providing quality training.
