The use of nature as a means of adaptation and a focus on “green infrastructure” are crucial because climate change-related incidents are becoming more frequent and severe, exacerbating Pakistan’s already dire financial issues.
Significance of Climate Change
The approval of this activity by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) indicates that the global community recognizes its significance for Pakistan’s ability to withstand climate change.
In his speech to the international community at COP28, Prime Minister Kakar stressed the need for swift action to combat climate change.
“The majority of Pakistan is part of the Indus basin and to adapt Pakistan to climate change, we must adapt the Indus Basin to climate change.
The Government of Pakistan is clear on its priorities with the Living Indus; which emphasizes nature-based solutions and ecosystem based approaches that seek to mobilize a movement which will restore and promote a healthy Indus.
Recharge Pakistan Future Impacts
The Recharge Pakistan project is a flagship project, which is central to our efforts to reducing flooding and drought impacts.
Under the Living Indus framework, this project will not only benefit millions of our citizens but will also serve as a model for climate innovation at a global scale,” he said in his announcement.
