Apple is reportedly considering releasing a new iPhone SE in 2025 with a custom-made 5G modem and manufacturing assistance from TSMC, according to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities. The note is the source of this data.
Using TSMC’s 4nm technology, MacRumors claims to have learned that Apple is developing a fourth-generation iPhone SE with a 6.1-inch OLED display. This data was compiled from a report that was made available on their site. In addition, two months ago, industry expert Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would continue development of this product and commence mass production in the first half of 2024. Jeff Pu, an analyst at IHS, believes that the release date has been pushed back to 2025, despite previous comments by Qualcomm’s CEO suggesting that a release in 2024 was possible.
Apple released a new version of iOS for the iPhone SE in March of 2022.
It is currently in its third version and is driven by Qualcomm’s custom-made Snapdragon X57 CPU for sub-6GHz 5G in addition to the A15 Bionic. It retains the previous model’s home button layout, 4.7-inch IPS screen, Touch ID biometric authentication in place of Face ID, and sizable top and bottom bezels. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the 2025 iPhone model would look similar to the iPhone 14 and use Face ID.
Moreover, in 2019, Apple reportedly bought the bulk of Intel’s smartphone modem sector to produce its own iPhone modem and lessen its dependency on Qualcomm, as reported by MacRumors. When it comes to power efficiency and 5G bandwidth, though, only time will tell if Apple’s modem proves to be superior than or at least on par with Qualcomm’s modem.
