Apple is working on a futuristic sunroof design for its first car, according to a new patent

We’re used to seeing Apple patents revealing new technologies that it’s been testing in its devices, but this one is a little different. The US Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple a patent for a car sunroof this week.

According to internet reports, Apple is working on a futuristic electric vehicle (EV) and may partner with a well-known automaker to realize its unique EV concept. With the latest news of a patent for a sunroof, it appears that things are now becoming evident.

The Apple-patented sunroof features variable opacity glass that allows the driver to adjust the sunroof’s opacity. In contrast to existing autos with similar technologies, which have a fixed sunroof, the patent shows that the sunroof opens in unison with the side windows.

Another component of the disclosed designs is Apple’s car, which has a changeable translucence area designated on the glass. The variable translucence section of the window can be modified to allow a specified quantity of light to pass through. The position of a moving panel assembly can be changed from closed to open.

This means that drivers of the upcoming ‘Apple Car’ will be able to let sunlight into the vehicle without having to open the sunroof, or they will be able to open it completely to receive some fresh air. It’s not hard to imagine Apple Car’s sunroof adjustments being accessed through CarPlay or Siri voice commands.

For the time being, the most important feature of this patent is that it confirms all of the rumors that Apple is working on its own car.

Apple is still developing and testing a new self-driving vehicle technology, according to recent reports, as well as discussing manufacturing plans with other companies.

Even if all of the reports are true, the Apple Car won’t be released for another 3 to 4 years, especially because the business has been losing engineers working on the project on a regular basis.
