According to those with direct knowledge of the situation, Amazon intends to make the greatest employment cutbacks in the history of the firm by terminating some 10,000 employees working in corporate and technical positions beginning as early as this week.
The people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to talk in public, said that the layoffs will mostly affect Amazon’s devices section, which includes the voice assistant Alexa, as well as its retail sector and human resources.
The overall number of layoffs is yet uncertain. However, if it continues at about 10,000, it will only account for around 3% of Amazon’s corporate staff and less than 1% of its mostly hourly, over 1.5 million-strong worldwide workforce.

Amazon would also become the most recent technology corporation to fire employees, despite only recently trying to keep them. The e-commerce behemoth increased the cash salary ceiling for its tech employees by more than twice as much did this year, citing “an extremely competitive labor market.”
