Jack Ma, a well-known Chinese billionaire and co-founder of the Alibaba Group, surprised observers by travelling to Pakistan.
Jack Ma landed in Lahore on June 29 and stayed there for 23 hours, according to Muhammad Azfar Ahsan, a former chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), who confirmed the visit to the local newspaper.
Ma made a point of stressing that it was solely a personal visit and purposefully avoided speaking with reporters and government officials.
Jack Ma’s Confidential Visit
He lived in a discreet area and flew out on June 30 in a private aircraft with the registration number VP-CMA that was owned by Jet Aviation.
Despite the fact that Ma’s visit’s objective is now unknown, Ahsan expressed optimism that Pakistan would benefit in the future from it.
Jack Ma was accompanied by a delegation of seven businessmen, including one American, one Danish, and five Chinese nationals.
They took a chartered flight from Hong Kong’s corporate aviation industry to go from Nepal to Pakistan.
Social media users speculated that Jack Ma and his team were meeting with influential businessmen and representatives from several chambers of commerce, as well as visiting trade centers and seeking business opportunities in Pakistan. There has, however, been no proof of any specific business talks or deals.
Ahsan stated in a tweet the Ma’s travel was solely for personal reasons. He said that it was interesting that not even the Chinese embassy was informed of Ma’s visit and activities there.
Speaking to the local newspaper, Chairman P@SHA, M. Zohaib Khan said, “Although it was a personal visit, it helped enhance Pakistan’s reputation from a tourism standpoint.”
According to Zohaib Khan, Pakistani officials should have grasped the chance to meet Jack Ma and benefit from his extensive knowledge in the IT industry.
Even a word from Jack Ma about Pakistan’s IT industry, he claimed, would have a big impact.
Waqas Ghani Kukaswadia, an analyst at JS Global, remarked that the visit by Jack Ma and other foreign investors shows their understanding of Pakistan’s enormous potential and their sincere interest in investigating investment prospects.
